How to upgrade contracts
Is there a better time of year than when your cell phone contract finally qualifies for an upgrade? I think not! The awesome feeling of accomplishment at having endured with your old phone so long up until the time when you can now receive a great new shiny gadget is simply thrilling. It’s like Christmas, but it’s even better – that’s why it only comes around every 2 years! Unfortunately, like most things these days, there’s a catch – that little nagging feeling that you might not get the new phone you want, along with the foggy memory of when your upgrade date actually is! Luckily with a little effort and some know how, things can be simplified, and these obstacles can be easily navigated. Whether you’re with Mtn, Vodacom or Cell C, upgrading your contract can be the dream you always imagined!
Basically, the first thing you need to do is find out when you’re due for an upgrade. This can be done in a number of ways, you can either visit your network in store, call the call centre, or check your online profile. Whichever way you choose, you will need to be the main account holder (or have their permission in writing) and a copy of your ID (or the main account holder’s). With this, you can simply ask them, they can check and let you know.
Once you know when you qualify, you just have to wait till your contract is ready and then call them again or visit them to ask which deals you can choose from. From here, it’s a simple process of choosing one, letting them know what you’d like and going for it! Usually they’ll give you options based on their current contracts at discounted rates, and with companies like Mtn they’ll often throw in a special on gadgets like tablets and TVs for a nominal monthly fee too – those are always exciting!
Upgrades usually come up a few months before the expiry date of your contract, which is basically your network’s way of trying to sweeten the deal before your contract ends so you stick with them for another 24 months. Who’s complaining though? Added extras are never a bad thing! Although, don’t forget to shop around before you sign up for an upgrade – there may be specials out there that could get you some great savings. These days you never know, and it’s best to have a look at what’s out there. Often different networks have opening specials on new phones, so you might be able to get a deal that’s even better than your upgrade, so it’s a good idea to have a look at what’s out there.
You can call up different networks to see what they advise, and see if they can help you to find something that will get you the best value for your money. Their customer care centres are usually really helpful and can tell you everything you need to know. Alternatively you can visit them in store or else check their online stores to see what deals they’re advertising. The best three networks are Mtn, Vodacom and Cell C, so those are probably the best ones to choose from, just make sure they offer coverage in your area and whatever deal you choose is better than what you’d be getting with an upgraded contract. These days most networks can give you a contract with the same number from your old package, so you don’t have to worry too much about changing over.
If you’re getting an upgrade, get ready to have some fun! It’s a fun and exciting time!
