Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini Review
The Sony Ericsson X10 Mini smart phone was created for single handed operation with a custom user interface and a unique small form-factor. The X10 Mini is a scaled down version of the X10 measuring just 83mm by 50mm by 16mm and includes many of the features users of the X10 have become accustomed to. It is easy to navigate and offers four colour back plates for users to customize their phone to their choice.
Because of the small form factor of the X10 Mini, the phone features a 2.55 inch QVGA touch screen which may be considered rather small for a smart phone, however the accurate touch sensitivity makes using the smaller screen a breeze. The Sony Ericsson X10 Mini also boasts a five mega-pixel camera with built-in auto focus and an LED flash which produces clear and crisp images and video recordings and a side button for quick launch and easy use and music and video playback which is more than impressive for such a small screen.
The Sony Ericsson X10 Mini features a Qualcomm MSM7227 600mhz processor which is more than capable of keeping up with the custom Sony Ericsson Timescape user interface which is over-laid on top of Google Android 1.6 and tasks such as browsing the Android Market, text messaging and using social media applications such as Facebook are quick and simple. Timescape offers social network integration allowing users to access Twitter, Facebook and text messages in the style of a vertical timeline as well as linking Twitter and Facebook contacts with Google contacts. The Sony Ericsson X10 Mini also offers Sony Ericssonís handy Media Go suite to sync media files with your computer.
The call quality on the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini far exceeds the majority of the smart phones on the market, with a crystal clear speakerphone which provides clear call quality even in noisy environments. Connectivity includes 802.11 b/g WiFi, a Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, and a built in GPS receiver with A-GPS, a digital compass, a microUSB port, an accelerometer and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The Sony Ericsson X10 Mini comes with a range of features that wouldnít be found in another mobile phone of this size, with the WebKit Web browser, a capacitive screen and Multi-tap and Quicktext (predictive text).
The Sony Ericsson user interface offers multiple home screens which can carry widgets, and corner control feature on the main home screen which allows customisable icons in each corner of the screen for launching frequently used applications. The Timescape app shows texts, calls and Facebook messages in one place for ease of use for the user.
The battery is fixed inside the chassis of the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini, which means users cannot replace the battery, however battery life is quoted at up to 4 hours of talk time GSM and 285 hours of GSM standby (3.5 hours and 360 hours on UMTS).
Overall, the small form factor of the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini, combined with the numerous features and capability offers users a smart phone which can fit into the smallest of pockets while still offering all the features of a smart phone.
