Nokia C6 Review
The Nokia C6 is the flagship of Nokia’s C-series phones providing a 3.2î touch screen , side sliding QWERTY keyboard and the recognisable design of a Nokia phone.
The 3.2î resistive touch screen of the Nokia C6 is a popular choice with Symbian phones and the 360 x 640 pixel resolution is a good match with great response of the resistive display. The recognisable red and green receiver keys and menu key are set below the screen while an ambient light and a proximity sensor, and a dedicated QVGA video-call camera can be found at the top of the phone above the screen.
The controls on the sides of the Nokia C6 are also similar to earlier Nokia models, with the volume rocker, the lock/hold key and the shutter key on the right side and a protected microSD card slot on the left. A sealed microUSB port is located at the top of the Nokia C6 along with a 3.5mm audio jack, while the 2mm charger plug and the mouthpiece are located on the bottom of the phone.
Although the Nokia C6 does not charge off USB, the charger is extremely compact, making it simple to carry the charger when travelling.
The Nokia C6 features a 5 mega-pixel camera lens on the back of the phone and an LED flash.
Beneath the back cover is the 1200 mAh BL-4J battery which is quoted at 384 hours of standby (both 2G and 3G) and up to 7 hours (2G) or 5 hours (3G) of talk time. The rear cover has a latch which makes it easy to open and access the SIM card and battery.
The spring-assisted slider and QWERTY keyboard are sleek and efficient and the phone allows for comfortable one-handed operation. Although the screen does not tilt like earlier models, the phone is still comfortable to hold the keyboard and view the screen head on. The four row keyboard offers good feedback making the keyboard very comfortable to use and boasts strong and even backlighting for ease of use in the dark and is accompanied by a D-pad.
The Nokia C6 runs S60 5th edition with improved kinetic and finger scrolling almost throughout the user interface.
The main menu structure is true to Symbian with icons set in a 3 x 4 grid or a list which can be reordered. Calendar, profiles and clock are accessed with a single press on the clock, Profile button or date. The connectivity menu can be accessed by tapping around the battery status indicator.
The space underneath the status icons and the clock can fit up to 5 widgets which can be hidden or displayed with a sideways finger sweep. The choice of widgets can range from the WLAN wizard, music player controls, calendar, email or the widget for favourite contacts. The other widgets are linked to various sites and services: Facebook, MySpace, Bloomberg, CNN video and quite a few more.
The Nokia C6 boasts a 5 MP camera with a maximum image resolution of 2592×1944 pixels with all the settings of the camera user interface in a combined menu, except for the flash. The range of camera settings on the Nokia C6 is extensive, with manual white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, sharpness and contrast.
The camcorder interface doesn’t differ from the still camera which can capture video in either VGA or the screen resolution (640 x 352 px) resolution.
The Nokia C6 offers all-in-one connectivity with GPRS, EDGE and 3G with HSDPA (3.6Mbps) at the userís disposal. The GSM/EDGE network support is quad-band and the 3G is tri-band.
The phone supports USB 2.0 and Bluetooth A2DP and Wi-Fi with UPnP.
With 240MB internal storage, expandable via a microSD slot and S60 web browser which provides good page rendering and auto fill-in of web forms and password manager, the Nokia C6 proves itself amongst its competitors.
The Mobile office offered by the Nokia C6 is also very well geared, with preinstalled applications able to open Word, Excel and PowerPoint files seamlessly as well as the advanced Active notes application for managing notes.
