The Nokia E72 maintains the reputation Nokia’s E Series has generated over the years. The superior build quality and improved user experience makes this handset a serious contender amongst other business devices.

The Nokia E72 stands at 114 x 58 x 10 mm and weighs 128g, with a form factor that is still amongst the slimmest QWERTY handsets on the market. The earpiece of the device is placed dead centre at the top of the front panel with an ambient light sensor and the video-call camera to the right of the earpiece. Below the earpiece is the 2.36″ QVGA display, followed by the main bank of control and navigation keys and the QWERTY keyboard and mouthpiece. Each of the one-touch keys (messaging and calendar) below the display can be customized to access any feature (actually two per key) of choice. The two soft keys functions are user-configurable too.

There’s combination of three buttons on the right hand side: the volume rocker with a dedicated voice command key between the up and down buttons. On the left is the microUSB port and microSD card slot which are both sealed with plastic caps to hold back dust and keep the contour of the handset intact. At the top of the handset is the 3.5 mm audio jack and the slightly concave power button which allows users to toggle ringing profiles, lock the keypad and safely remove the memory card, as well as the option to switch between power saving mode.

The bottom of the Nokia E72 features the charger port and the lanyard eye, while the back panel of Nokia E72 is made of finely-grooved stainless steel, with a 5 mega pixel camera lens, LED flash and a self-portrait mirror.

Internally the Nokia E72 boasts a 1500 mAh BP-4L Li-Ion battery which is quoted at 576 hours of stand-by time and 12 and a half hours of talk time. The handset runs on Symbian 9.3 OS with the Series60 3rd Edition user interface and is powered by a 600 MHz CPU.
The built-in memory is 250MB, which is extendable up to 16GB with the memory card slot.

The phone’s main menu has two view modes: a 4 x 3 grid of icons and a list. The active stand-by mode is a convenient way to add shortcuts to all your favorite applications on the home screen. In addition users can bring up to fourteen different kinds of notifications on the home screen. The phonebook of the E72 offers storage space for a virtually unlimited number of contacts and fields and contacts can be freely ordered by first or last name, and can naturally be searched by gradual typing of any name. The Call log application can hold up to 20 call records in each of the tabs for outgoing, received and missed calls.

The E Series devices are mostly about messaging and connectivity the E72 is no different. Setting up email accounts and sending text messages is made simple by the comfortable keyboard, predictive text, auto-completion, spelling correction among others.

Media on the E72 has not been neglected in favour of the business features, with the image gallery offering easy browsing with quick responsive zooming and panning. The gallery also offers picture tagging in addition to the automatic geo-tagging of the camera.
The Music player of the Nokia E72 supports a large number of audio formats supported including MP3, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA. Browsing the internet on the E72 is definitely a positive experience with excellent page rendering, landscape orientation and full Flash support.
