The Samsung Champ C3303 is a fun, affordable touch screen phone with a 2.4inch resistive screen in the small 80g device. This basic phone offers the unique feature of 7 panels on the home screen which can be customised for the different types of widgets or shortcuts to suit the user.

The C3303 Champ has a well-thought out design that measures 96.3 x 53.8 x 13mm and weighs 80 grams. The hand set design is neither too small nor too big. It has total plastic body with the 1.3Mp camera on the rear of the handset and stylus placed at the edge so you can touch the screen conveniently. The 240×320 QVGA resolution screen occupies the front face of the handset along with the Call, Back and Cancel/Power On/Off button. What’s interesting here is that there are two speakers, one above and another below the screen. The top of the phone features a standard audio jack and microUSB port for charging or connecting to your PC while on the right is the Sleep/Wake/Unlock button typically found in Samsung phones. On the left is the volume control.

Samsung has integrated its in-house TouchWiz Lite user interface which is optimized for touch screen devices and makes the use of widgets. Users can surf the web with the pre-installed web browser which works well with mobile optimized websites and with added support for social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Flickr etc. Messaging is handled in a threaded format which they call Conversations, which is a pleasant surprise from this basic phone.

Music is Champ’s best feature with the music player supporting a decent number of audio formats such as WMA, eAAC+ and MP3, allowing users to play music on the basis of albums, artists, genre etc. and supports EQ settings. The audio quality on the earphones is good, but the sound quality is excellent via the loud speakers as well. Champís FM Radio is a little different as it integrates the wireless antenna, which means a user can directly scan and listen to FM stations without having to attach his earphones to the phone meaning it doesn’t require a headset to be plugged in to use it. The radio also allows users to set a sleep timer on the radio to allow them to use it to fall asleep.

Internally the Champ C3303 features 30MB of memory which can be expanded to 8GB by using the external memory card slot. C3303ís phone book has ability to store 1000 entries with each able to store information such as the street address, company name, e-mail address and multiple numbers. It also offers a number of personal organiser features such as world time, an alarm, clock, converter, to do list and schedule.

The Champ C3303 makes use of a pre-installed web browser which allows users to link up to seven of their favourite social networking sites such as Myspace, Twitter and Facebook with connectivity via GPRS, EDGE, USB v2.0, W-i-Fi and Bluetooth.

Although the 1.3MP Camera on the Champ C3303 captures average quality pictures, the image editor provides additional features such as adjusting the levels, brightness and contrast. Additional photo effects may also be added to it like Emboss, Fog, sketch, Negative and Sepia with a transform option available to rotate or crop the images.

The Samsung Champ C3303 is focused at the younger market with its social networking capabilities and strong music player performance. The touch screen is very responsive and the device offers little delay when applications are opened. The Champ is powered by a Li-ion 1000 mAh battery and boasts a talk time of 12 hours and standby time is 666 hours.

It is obvious why Samsung have called it the Champ. This basic little phone offers a lot of features that cannot be found on other low level phones including a touch screen experience and high quality music playback.
